Oh, hey there. It’s been awhile! I know, I know, I went a little bit AWOL for a little long while… but I’m back and I have a super exciting announcement! I am beyond thrilled to have launched my new blog and brand, Frida & Me. Honestly, this project has been a long time in the making and I feel like I just gave birth. Frida & Me is a lifestyle blog geared toward conscious living and those who are aiming to better their lives, and the world in which we live. We will be featuring clean eats, organic and cruelty-free wellness and beauty products, as well as tons of inspiration for you fellow boss babes! We are also launching our very own line of eco-friendly accessories apparel for pooches and their humans. So please, please head on over and check it out. I’m dying to hear what you think!! And don’t forget to follow us @fridaandme_ for your daily dose of, well, Frida & Me!
I can’t think of one girl I know who doesn’t want longer lashes! I mean, who wouldn’t? Long lashes = sexy, flirty, and make your eyes POP! My friends and I have literally tried it all from Latisse to lash extensions… with some definite success. HOWEVER, these methods aren’t exactly budget-friendly and can be super time consuming. Not to mention some not-so-pleasant side effects.
As always… if there is a natural alternative, that is definitely my preference! Sooooo, when I happened upon a little 3 ingredient recipe for DIY lash serum I was allllll over it!! Luckily, I’m a bit of an oil-hoarder… so I already had all of the ingreds. I immediately whipped up a batch and have been hooked ever since.
I wanted to give it a solid month before I gave you all the low-down. So, here it is… My lashes are longer, thicker, and honestly I feel like they are darker too! I used to NEVER leave the house without a couple coats of mascara, but now… no need! Don’t get me wrong, I still totally layer on the mascara for a night out… but on a day to day basis I no longer find it necessary.
Another bonus? My whole eye area just feels younger and healthier due to the oils. I have also been using this little concoction on my brows and they have filled in A LOT!!
I haven’t noticed any negative effects whatsoever. The only thing I will say is that I recommend applying this right before bed each night as the oil can get a little runny. **Sidenote: if your mixture hardens as coconut oil tends to do… just run under warm water until you reach the desired consistency.
So… what are your fave DIY at-home beauty remedies?!?
Hey babes… we’re back for collab number 2! Blogger babes Erica of Fashionlush, Lauryn of The Skinny Confidential, and myself will be teaming up each month to bring you a super cute and creative DIY project. So fun!
We’re all totally obsessed with dreamcatchers. I mean, who isn’t. I love adding to my dreamcatcher collection, the more the merrier, right? Dreamcatchers are said to protect the sleeping from bad dreams while letting the good ones through. Sooo… in my mind more dream catchers mean less bad dreams and more dreams coming true ( which BTW they totally are ). I’m pretty sure making your own dreamcatcher makes your dreams come true even faster… so get on it!
– gold beads, charms, odds and ends of your choice
1) Wrap your hoop with the suede lacing. Begin by securing one end of the suede to your hoop with a clothes pin so that you can get the right tension. Wrap hoop completely and finish with superglue. Choose a hoop the desired size of your dreamcatcher. If you are making multiples, mix up the size!
2) Time to string it up. Tie your waxed thread around the hoop and between the suede ( ya know, the little cracks where the suede meets up ). Create a web-like pattern by stringing along the outside of the hoop and working your way in, connecting the strings as you go along. This part can get a little confusing. If you need a little extra help check out this site. Remember not to leave too much tension or it will look sloppy.
3) Add your feathers. Gather a few feathers, 3 – 4. Tie one end of suede around the ends of your feather and the other around the bottom of your hoop. Mix up the lengths of your suede so that your feathers all hang at different levels. Repeat, repeat, repeat. The good dreams are said to glide down the feathers to the sleeping person below, aka you!
4) Add some little touches to make it your own!
Ta-da. What do you think? I am loving how this looks on my wall ( and sleeping like a baby )… so get out there, get crafty, and go catch a dream!
P.S. What do you babes want us to make next month? We’d love to hear from you :) & don’t forget to check out last month’s collab. It’s one of my favs!
It’s that time again… our newest KT+E Unplugged viddy is up and at ’em. This time it’s all about that looooooong long hair.
It’s pretty clear that long hair is here to stay… why? Because it’s sexy, feminine, and let’s face it… everything just looks better when accompanied by long, luscious locks. Fortunately, long hair is no longer just for the super lucky, the uber patient, or Rapunzel. Anyone can have long, flowing mermaid hair if they so desire. How you ask…? Easy, just fake it ’til you make it.
So, my babe Erica and I are head over heels about Bellami clip in hair extensions. They are insane. Bellami uses 100% human hair so not only do the extensions look super real ( cuz I mean, they are ), but you are free to heat style them… curly, wavy, straight… whatever your little heart desires ( oh, and p.s. Bellami makes some pretty epic styling tools ). Bellami offers 18″, 20″, and 22″ extensions as well as clip in bangs in a muriad of sexy colors. Don’t know what color to pick…? No worries, the babes at Bellami will help you pick your perfect match.
Check out our latest viddy on how to put them in, style them up, and rock them out!
I went totally wild for these cute critter dishes the moment I saw them on Pinterest! I am all about DIY projects… especially ones that I will actually use on a daily basis once they’re complete.
I knew I had to share these cuties with my babe and fellow blogger extraordinaire, Fashionlush. She too fell head over heals… so we decided to do a little collab and bring you the cutest dang critter dishes you have ever laid eyes on! [p.s. stay tuned… this will be the first of many Fashionlush x Kikadoo to die for DIYs.]
I’m always collecting cute little dishes to keep on my nightstand, in my bathroom, by the kitchen sink, etc. My ‘everyday’ jewelry tends to live in said dishes for easy access… hence my instant attraction to the critter dish.
This is such a simple project that requires minimal time and effort yet yields maximum benefits! They also make for a super cute gift. I already gave one to my sis [the elephant for love & luck]. Needless to say, she’s obsessed!
You can whip up a handful of these puppies [or kitties, or zebras, or unicorns… you get the idea] in one crafternoon. I took advantage of my lazy, rainy Saturday and went to town on these cute lil critters.
I picked up most of my supplies at Daiso… the dollar store in Japantown [and one of my fav places].
Not gonna lie… I’m pretty pleased with the finished product! So freaking cute. My rings and bracelets are loving their new homes!
[Contact me for all the deets if you’re interested in ordering a DIY Critter Dish Kit]
p.s. these dishes are also great for storing hair ties & robert (bobby) pins
My girl Fashionlushxx and I have a to “DYE” for product review over on our YouTube channel: KT+E Unplugged. We have been super into the Dip Dye // Colorful hair trend and feel that it will be making a total resurgence for Spring 2013 [[<– which I can’t wait for btdubs]].
Anyhooo, we have played around with various methods of achieving the Dip Dye look without putting our hair through hell. I was a fan of the Anastasia Hypercolor Hair Powder. It’s good for a one-nighter and washes out in one shampoo. A word to the wise… stick to wearing dark colors and watch your pillowcase when using this product. I mean, it is powder… so it tends to wander. Though the Anastasia powder did the job, we weren’t quite satisfied… that is until we discovered Watercolor!!
This may be my favorite product of the moment, and as a self proclaimed product junkie, that’s saying a lot! This stuff seriously made my hair look, feel, and smell like a million buck$. It’s a super hydrating hair mask that also adds a pop of color. It comes in purple, blue, yellow, red, & pink and you can pick it up at Urban Outfitters[<– select stores only], or order it off their website.
My hair is light brown… somewhere around a level 5 – 6. It showed up really well in my hair, especially toward the ends which are naturally lighter. I basically saturated my hair in this mask from roots to tips. Erica’s hair is a bit darker… probably around a level 4. It still showed up nicely in her hair, but it was more of a “tint” effect. She applied the mask to the lower 1/3rd of her hair. We found that we got the best results by applying it to dry hair and letting it set for about 30 mins. Then just shower as usual and rinse it out [don’t shampoo… just rinse. You don’t want to dilute it too much.]
I applied the mask on Friday and have shampooed three times since. It’s still lookin’ good. The color gets more subtle with each shampoo, but this stuff has definitely got some staying power. I would use this product for the way it makes my hair feel alone. The ridiculously good smell and cute colors are a total added bonus. I will definitely be buying more in the very near future. Well, Valentine’s day is right around the corner… do you know what you’re getting that special someone?? If your answer was yes then good for you!! If not, read on… As you know by now my girl Fashionlushxx and I have a YouTube channel. We decided to get a little lovey dovey over the weekend and came up with a cute V-day tutorial. It’s quick & easy… right up my alley. All you need is a mug, a sharpie, an oven, and about 30 minutes. This gift is perfect for your mom, dad, grandma, gramps, aunt, uncle, sister, brother, your BFF, your boss, Mr. right, Mr. not-so-right, pretty much anyone… I think you catch my drift. I mean… who doesn’t enjoy a warm beverage every now and then. I know I do. Check out KT+E Unplugged for full DIY directions.
The final product… my his + hers love mug. & it wouldn’t be V-day without some conversation hearts.
As promised in last week’s post… we have created a PLL inspired DIY fashion tutorial over at KT+E Unplugged. Who else was lusting over Aria’s studded hoodie from the winter premier?? I know I was. I wanted to see it hanging in my closet STAT so I took it upon myself to make it happen. I gathered the needed supplies and got to work. Here’s how it turned out…
Here’s what you’ll need:
+ a hoodie… any hoodie will do. I went with basic black while Fashionlushxx gravitated toward gray [we got ours at H&M…what’s new?]
+studs: We went with a 1/2 inch conical stud which we ordered ours from Studs & Spikes.com
+ a flat-head screw driver: this will help you to pinch down the prongs on each stud
We chose to stud along the pockets and the rim of the hood… but you can do whatever tickles your fancy. It’s your project so have fun with it!
Head on over to KT+E Unplugged to watch the tutorial… and while you’re there DON”T forget to subscribe!!
