Smarty Pants

So… now that I have a closet full of maxi skirts I’m noticing a new trend is taking over and I’m REALLY into it!! I’m talking about swapping out your maxi for some sexy pants. Yep. Pants.

I attended the most MAJ event last weekend for my babe, Lauryn’s book launch and noticed that probably half of the sexy chicas there were totally rocking this trend. #bitchesinbritches ♥ I love this look because I think it’s sophisticated, sexy, semi-masculine, and super comfy. Also, you don’t have to worry about pulling a ‘Britney’ ( aka giving everyone an eye-full ) while getting out of the car or hopping down from the bar. I was working this trend as well in a pair of sheer, high waisted pants with lace detailing down the sides paired with a crop top. It’s all about showing just enough skin… and trust me, it’s a fine line.

Anyhow, here are some of my favorite sexy pantalones…

Get The Look: Beanie Baby

So, it’s officially my favorite season! Yes, winter is great and of course I can’t wait for Christmas… but I was actually referring to Beanie Season!

Beanies are everything. Right?!? They keep you warm and cozy, cover up post-workout hair ( #dirtyhairdontcare ), and give you that IDGAF kinda look.

You know I love my tomboy chic… but I’m actually really loving beanies with maxi dresses, sky high platforms, and super girlie things! So don’t be afraid to mix things up ;)

Loooooove mixing black & blue. Esp when the blue is in the form of a Chanel ;)

It seriously is the most wonderful time of the year. The weather’s getting chilly, everyone is getting in the holiday spirit, and I can watch tacky made for TV Christmas movies all month long :) Another plus…? Winter is my favorite season for fashion! Sweaters, boots, beanies… ugh, I’m in heaven.

Flannel obsessed ♥

This winter I am loving leather ( as usual ), flannels, and pretty much anything that looks cute but is totally comfy.

Remember when I showed you guys one of my favorite “steals”… the Mya Coated Skinnies by AOS? Yep, still obsessed. Definitely a winter staple!!

Bite Worthy

Ugh… you guys. I have a major shopping addiction. Like. Major.

Everyday I repeat my mantra… “I will not shop today, I will not shop today, stay strong Katie”, but guess what… it hasn’t really been working.

Ya know what, rather than fight it I’d prefer to just share my favorite finds with you guys… sound good? Great!

I’ll leave it up to you to tell me ‘yes, you totally need another pair of black ankle boots to add to your insane collection’… or ‘no, get a grip and get your a$$ straight out that door and to the nearest Shopaholics Anonymous meeting STAT’… your call.

This week’s bite-worthy finds… clockwise:

Urban Outfitters Pins and Needles Lace-Inset Slip Romper $69.00: This lace slip dress is the perfect base layer for pretty much any and every outfit.

Nars Semi-Matte Lipstick in Scarlet Empress $26: I love, love, love a dark matte lip for fall and this color is amaze!

H&M Black Knit Cape $59.95: Who doesn’t love a classic cape? There’s just something so Coco about it. Timeless.

FXXI Standout Chain Necklace $8.80: One of the easiest way to step up your look is by adding a chunky, statement piece like this one.

FXXI Cozy Fair Isle Cardigan $32.80 : Ok. This cardigan is seriously too freaking cute. I love cozy cardis for fall. It will be in my closet by the end of the week.

H&M Quilted Shopper $34.95: I know I have like a million and one black bags, but I just love the pleated details on this one. It’s kind of the perfect laptop bag IMHO. & wouldn’t it go great with these shoes?!?

Urban Outfitters Grey City Bree Lace-Up Ankle Boots $189.00: Remember how I professed my love of shoes, especially black ankle boots? Well, here we go again. Chunky heel, lace-ups, & gold hardware on the toe… ugh. I die.

So… should I check myself into rehab now, or later?

I may like pretty things, but I’m a TOTAL tomboy at heart ( always have been, always will be… sry )!! That being said, I’m still completely obsessed with fashion ( obvi ) and love finding looks that allow me to mix and match my tomboy favs with some girlie touches.

I love this look because A) it’s cute, B) it’s comfy, and C) it basically works for any and every occasion. Lunch with your bestie babes ✓, a night to forget at your fav dive bar ✓, Blog-Doo book club ✓, Sunday din with the fam ✓… you get the point.

My favorite leather jacket and vintage flannel are absolute staples ( I live in them ). This look can easily go downhill quick. Yep, down that hill and straight on to Frumpville USA, but pairing them with a skinny mini, a cute pair of ankle boots, and a girlie ‘do totally femmes it up. If you’re going to rock the tomboy look think Tomboy Chic… not twinning with your boyfriend. Thx.

Real vs. Steal: Moto Style

So, there’s pretty much nothing I love more than a leather jacket! As soon as the weather cools off I pretty much live in mine. I like to pair it with leggings, sweats, skinnies, minis… you name it.

Though I do think a good leather jacket is a definite staple in any wardrobe, I do not think it’s necessary to drop a pretty penny on one. I mean, if you’re like me you’ll want to accumulate a variety of styles: moto, quilted, fitted, cropped… why break the bank on just one?

I’ll admit… I about died when I saw this little Marc Jacobs number. The mock collar, quilted details, asymmetric zip, I mean c’mon. It’s perf. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the price.

Don’t fret my pets… I found the most amazing steal. This H&M gem has got it all… + it’s only an itty bitty fraction of the price.

So, what do you babes think? Would you splurge on the real or save on the steal?!?

Real vs. Steal: I Didn’t Steal Your Boyfriend… Jeans

I’m not much of a jeans person. My typical ‘uniform’ typically consists of leggings or tights, an oversized vintage band tee, some cute ankle booties, tons of bracelets and rings, and if I’m feeling frisky, a flowy shawl or kimono. [This one’s my all time fav… you can pick it up here.]

However, lately I have been living in my skinny boyfriend jeans [I mean, sometimes the best kind of boyfriend is a denim one]. These jeans are comfy and casual, go with everything, and are the perfect balance between practical and on trend. I like to pair mine with a simple tee, ankle boots [these little loves by Ecote are some of my favs], or a cute pair of loafers. [Buyer beware… please don’t pair your BF jeans with flip flops, tennis shoes, or knee boots. You won’t look effortlessly chic, you’ll just look like a Frumpy Mc Frumpster in baggy pants!] As with most things in life, it’s all about the shoes… so keep ’em femme to balance out the pants.

Pretty much every company under the sun has their own take on the boyfriend jean. Spending $200+ on a pair of jeans is so ten years ago. I used to do this all the time in college because being preppy and blending in was all the rage, but ya know what… screw normalcy. I absolutely cringe at the way I used to dress because it was sooooo not me, and it showed. [A pricey pair of Sevens, Jack Purcells, and a button up. Ick. So cute on some peeps… but I’m not one of them.] I say be yourself. If you feel just as cute and comfortable in a $20 pair of jeans as you do in a $200 then  go for it. Think about all of the other cool shiz you can get with the money you saved. Saving money doesn’t always mean sacrificing quality… sometimes it just means being smart! Plus some people [not mentioning any names here… ahem… {ME}] may or may not have a shopping addiction [obvi], so if spending less = shopping more you can count me in. Like I said here… if I’m going to splurge, it’s gonna be on wine and handbags ;)

Kikadoo Real vs Steal Skinny Boyfriend Jeans AG HM.jpg

Anyhooooo… here is a super cute pair of AG ‘Tomboy’ jeans as seen on the likes of Katie Holmes, Jessica Alba, and Rachel Bilson. They’re adorbs… they’ll also run you $228 smackers. And here is my pick for a just as cute pair at a fraction of the price.

So… what do you think. Would you splurge on the real or save with the steal?

P.S. My babe Fashionlush and I looooove going into H&M and dropping $$$$$ like it’s our job [I mean… it kind of is]. H&M finally has an online store. This is soooo bad for my bank account… but great for my soul [and the economy]!!

TGIF: Save It For A Rainy Day

kika rain boots redrum

First of all… what’s up with the weather lately?!? I honestly can’t keep up. I actually really like the rain [and the sun too for that matter], so either way I’m pretty much good to go. I’m not one to get the blues when it’s gray outside; so the only thing truly affected by the weather are my outfit choices. For rainy days I typically opt for boots // skinnies // a vintage rocker T // + my trusty leather jacket. Here’s how I wore it.

What To Wear Wednesdays: PLL Steez

As promised in last week’s post… we have created a PLL inspired DIY fashion tutorial over at KT+E Unplugged. Who else was lusting over Aria’s studded hoodie from the winter premier?? I know I was. I wanted to see it hanging in my closet STAT so I took it upon myself to make it happen. I gathered the needed supplies and got to work. Here’s how it turned out…

pretty little liars studded hoodie

Here’s what you’ll need:

+ a hoodieany hoodie will do. I went with basic black while Fashionlushxx gravitated toward gray [we got ours at H&Mwhat’s new?]

+ studs: We went with a 1/2 inch conical stud which we ordered ours from Studs & Spikes.com

+ a flat-head screw driver: this will help you to pinch down the prongs on each stud

We chose to stud along the pockets and the rim of the hood… but you can do whatever tickles your fancy. It’s your project so have fun with it!

Head on over to KT+E Unplugged to watch the tutorial… and while you’re there DON”T forget to subscribe!!
