Get The Look: What Would Claudia Wear

The-Fashion-Bite-Katie-Roof-What-Would-Claudia-Kishi-Wear-Babysitters-Club

Soooo… I pretty much like to draw my fashion inspiration from Claudia Kishi of Babysitters’s Club fame. Remember that?!? The best book series / TV show of my childhood life. It was kind of like “Girls”… but minus all the sex and naked-ness. If you were a child of the 80’s / 90’s, you know what I’m talking about.

The 90’s were hands down the best decade as far as fashion was concerned. Some would argue against me, but they would be wrong. Claudia was a hipster-rebel with a passion for fashion, and I’m pretty sure she was only a member of the club to fuel her shopping addiction ( a girl after my own heart ). I mean, money talk$. She had a seriously kick ass Seattle grunge scene thing going on. She always looked like she had just scored at the Urban Outfitters sale, and this is before Urban Outfitters was really a thing. So, cheers to you, Claudia! Thanks for keeping me inspired for all these years :)

4►►► Levi’s High-Rise Cutoff Short $68: Cute, cropped, but not too-too short. Because Claudia wouldn’t be caught dead with her a** cheeks hanging out of her shorts ← not cute.

5►►► Dr. Martens Stratford Leather 9 Eye sneaker Boot $85: These bad boys just came in the mail and I am dying. Obsessed. They go with anything and everything and I plan on wearing the shiz out of them! Claudia would too! ← Bonus… they are floral on the inside and can be folded down. Love.

6►►► Nasty Gal School Girl Thigh High Socks $15: Claudia knows that knee-highs make everything better.

Crystal Clear

The-Fashion-Bite-Katie-Roof-Crystal-Clear-Lucite-Clutch

Clearly, lucite has made a comeback… and I’m really diggin’ it, esp. in the form of accessories and home decor. Its crisp and clean, goes with everything, and forces you to be uber organized.

The-Fashion-Bite-Katie-Roof-Real-Vs-Steal-Clear-Lucite-Clutch-Nasty-Gal-CC-Skye

There’s nothing cuter than a clear clutch and I’m kind of dying to get my hands on one… literally. This CC Skye one with the rose gold accents is to-die, right? However, $300+ on something that’s bound to be a passing trend is kind of unjustifiable IMHO. I mean, yes… it’s perfect for girls night out, but it’s not going to be your everyday bag. This little Nasty Gal gem is equally as cute and won’t break the bank.

So what do you guys think? Would you splurge on the real or save with the steal…? The choice is clear, if you ask me!

Get The Look: Pretty In Punk

The-Fashion-Bite-Katie-Roof-Pretty-In-Punk

It’s not a shocker that punk / grunge has totally made a revival. I dare you to walk out your door without spotting someone sporting some Doc Martens with a flannel tied around their waist. Seriously. Good luck with that.

I for one, am thrilled. Some would say that the trends of the late 80s / early 90s were horrendous… I would disagree. This was probably my FAVORITE  time for fashion. I may have been a kid, but I knew a good thing when I saw one. Babydoll dresses topped off with a flannel were my jam. I lived in my Doc Martins and didn’t leave the house without my mini-backpack… probably filled with pogs.

Fast forward 20 years later and not much has changed. This is still one of my favorite looks. I say, go for the grunge… just polish it up a bit. Think crop tops and fitted skirts or plaid leggings… and don’t forget to accessorize!

Soooo… are you digging this revival as much as I am or do you wish punk was dead?!?

Christmas-time is in the air! You know what that means… you guessed it. The *NSYNC christmas album circa ’98 will be playing on repeat from now until New Years Day. Totally not kidding BTW, but actually I was thinking more along the lines of SHOPPING SEASON… it’s officially begun. Forget about battling crowds and freezing my a** off on Black Friday. Sounds like an anxiety attack waiting to happen, no thx! I prefer to do my shopping from my fav place in the world… my couch. Cuddling up with my pup, a hot cup of tea, my laptop, and a tacky Lifetime Christmas movie sounds like a wayyyyy better way to spend the day :) Yes, ’tis the season to give, but hey, you’ve also gotta treat yourself every now &then day. Here’s what’s been fueling my Black Friday shopping addiction.

+ [ FXXI ] Be Seen Shag Jacket $65: YOU GUYS! This jacket… fur-get about it… its MINE!

+ [ Urban Outfitters ] Obey x UO Pearse Beanie $29: Beanies are my go-to for winter. The more I wear beanies, the less I have to actually brush my hair ;)

+ [ Chanel ] Le Vernis Limited Edition Nail Colour in Rouge Moiré $27: I think I need this polish to go with my cranberry lippy… right?!

+ [ FXXI ] Modernist Asymmetrical Dress $22.80: Dead. Dying. Done over this dress. Sexy, yet classy for all those upcoming holiday parties… + it’s my fav color. lol. It’s kind of unbelievable in blue too, do I dare?

+ [ ASOS ] Quilt Cross Body Bag with Cat Ears $32: This quilted cat purse is too freaking cute! It will go puuurrrrfectly with my new boots. Need it right meow.

+ [ Nasty Gal ] Just Female Addi Bracelet Set $40: Love this stackable arm candy. Dainty with an edge.

+ [ Nasty Gal ] Shoe Cult Saumur Quilted Chelsea Bootie $120 on sale for $38: I need another pair of black booties like I need a hole in the head… but I can’t resist these quilted lovers.

+ [ Urban Outfitters ] “As If” Fingerless Gloves $16: Anything that keeps my mitts warm  and allows me to type simultaneously def makes my wish list. Added bonus… they remind me of my fav 90’s movie. “Do you prefer fashion victim or ensembly challenged?”

So spill, what were your most bite-worthy finds of the week?!

Trend Alert Tuesday: Cut it out.

Holy Moly! Is it just me or am I seeing less fabric and more skin this season?? Holes, rips, tears, gashes, slashes, and cut-outs are popping up [or should I say popping out] everywhere. I don’t know about you… but I’m totally digging it.

So… what do you think? Love it… or leave it?

What to wear…? Wednesdays: are you fur real?

20121114-130451.jpg

grrr baby grrr… break out the fur.

Could it be that this seemingly endless summer that we’ve been having here in San Diego is finally meeting its demise…? Somebody, pinch me! I have been longing for winter weather and all that it entails… peppermint lattes, cozying up by the fire, and most importantly the FASHION! This season it is ALL about fur. Fur coats, fur vests, fur collars, you name it! I personally love this trend because I feel it lends itself to a variety of personal styles. Whether your look is classic, boho, or rocker chic… there’s a fur for that. There is no need to hunt long and hard for a fabulous fur, they’re everywhere! I have spotted some drool-worthy ones at FXII, H&M, Lulu’s, and Nasty Gal… so unleash your inner wild child and rock this savage trend.
