The Perfect Thanksgiving Cranberry Lip

Happy Turkey Day lovas! We all know that Thxgiving is all about the food… sweet potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie ( I’ll be making this one ), and more…. however, there are other ( calorie free ) ways of indulging! One of my favs…? Satisfying my sweet tooth with the perfect cranberry lippy!

The steps:

– The night before ( and every night for that matter ) moisturize, moisturize, moisturize at bedtime. Our skin best absorbs moisture while we are sleeping. There is absolutely nothing worse than dry lips! Yuck! I like to use a super rich balm at bedtime, my fav is Smith’s Rosebud Salve.

– Before applying your cranberry lip, lightly brush your lips with a soft toothbrush. This will exfoliate your lips, making your color go on flawlessly. ( I exfoliate my lips on the daily )

– Next apply your favorite lip balm, in my case it’s EOS. Remember this post? Ya, still obsessed with these bad boys!

– Use your lip brush to apply a rich, cranberry toned lipstick. Currently diggin’ Kat Von D’s Foiled Love Lipstick in F.T.W. It is literally the perfect shade of cranberry, plus it’s paraben free… score! Apply heavily then blot, blot, blot. This will give you stained, “three sheets to the red wine wind” effect.

– Top it off with an extra pop of color ( & moisture ) in the form of your favorite lip & cheek cream color. I love Stila’s Convertable Color in Poppy. This color is universally flattering and will totally brighten up your look.

– Remember to keep the rest of your makeup soft & natural. A cranberry lip calls for a nude eye and clean face.

Stuff It!

Are you guys wearing socks…? Cuz I’m about to knock them off with the most insanely delicious stuffing you have ever stuffed your face with! I’m not kidding. This stuffing is so good it literally brings a tear to my eye. The best part…? It’s totally G-Free and Paleo friendly too :)

Growing up I was always the queen of stuffing ( well, maybe self proclaimed queen )… nonetheless, I was queen. Stuffing has always been my jam. It’s the part of the holiday menu I have always been in charge of, and obvi my favorite part of the meal. Finding out I was allergic to gluten kind of threw a monkey wrench into the whole queen of stuffing thing. I experimented with G-Free stuffing recipes for years to no avail. It just never came out right… thus, I was dethroned… until now!!!

This year I came up with the most incredible gluten free stuffing. It’s super simple to make and I swear your Turkey Day guests will be begging you for the recipe. I tried it out last weekend, as I’m a firm believer in experimenting with new recipes prior to the day of an event. This can save you from major stress, and major disasters… totes worth it. Anyhooooo, it was love at first bite, and my family could not believe how light, fluffy, and delicious it was. Forget about letting your nasty, gluten free bread dry out over night, etc. etc. We’re making this from scratch.

Tip: If you live in the real world and don’t have hours to spend chopping away in the kitch, or don’t want to ruin your holiday makeup crying over Mr. Onion you can pick up an organic, already chopped mixture of onion, celery, sage, and parsley in the produce section of Whole Foods. What a life saver!

The steps:

– Sauté ghee, onion, celery, parsley, and sage over medium heat for about 5 minutes.

– Add your sprig of chopped rosemary and pecans to your pan for the last 2 minutes.

– In a seperate bow, combine your dry ingredients – almond flour, coconut flour, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.

– Now stir in your wet ingredients: eggs and chicken broth.

– Once your mixture is done sauteing, add it to your wet and dry ingredients and combine well.

– You will be left with a crumbly dough… leave it this way if you like your stuffing nice and fluffy. If you prefer a more dense stuffing, feel free to pack it more tightly.

Pour your stuffing mixture into a Pyrex, Le Creuset, or some type of oven safe dish and bake at 350 for 35 – 40 minutes.

Bite Me: 10 Minute Sweet Potato Mash

You guys are in for a REAL treat! Remember when I mentioned that I would be bringing you one of my fav fall recipes…? Well, here it is. Oh, and you’re welcome in advance.

Who doesn’t like sweet potatoes? I mean… they’re everywhere, on every menu, in every form: baked, mashed, fried… you name it. I for one love a good sweet potato, especially on a cold rainy day like today. It’s the ultimate G-Free comfort food.

Ya know what’s not comforting? Spending all day in the kitch when I have a to-do list a mile long. That’s why my favorite recipes are the ones I can whip up in no time, yet act like I’ve been slaving away over a hot stove. So here it is… my ultimate 10 minute sweet potato.

First, take your potato and scrub ‘a dub it. These are root veggies, aka they grow in the dirt, aka they’re kind of filthy. Next dry it off and with a sharp knife poke 3 holes in each side of your potato ( this lets it breathe while it’s heating ). Now, place your potato on a paper  towel and microwave it for 5 minutes. Next, flip your potato upside-down and microwave for another 5. Carefully take your potato out of the microwave ( it’s going to be HOT ). Cut your potato in half and remove skin if desired.

If you prefer your potato sans skin it slips right off. If you’re like me, leave it on. The skin is seriously the best part. Sweet potatoes are packed with calcium, folate, potassium, beta-carotene ( an antioxidant that combats free radicals and is great for your skin ), and vitamins A & C. These nutrients totally thrive in the skin of the potato, so I say leave it on. With a fork, start mashing your potato.

Now it’s time to add some ghee! The nutrients in the potato are actually said to be more easily absorbed when consumed with a small amount of healthy fat. Adding ghee is perfect for this reason, plus it’s delish. Sprinkle a little pink himalayan salt and cinnamon to taste. Voila! You’ve just made yourself the perfect sweet potato.

Feeding the whole fam? Not in a crunch for time? Pop your potato( es ) in the oven for an hour instead of using the microwave. Needless to say, I’ll definitely be whipping these bad boys up for Thxgiving.<– Only one week away! Yay!
